The Tourism Department has decided to resume operation of speed boats in Hussainsagar till 6 p.m. in a day or two. A decision to this effect was taken at a board meeting held recently.

The decision follows the death of a 22-year-old woman Bakthawar Rana, a native of Jharkhand, following an accident in the lake recently. The woman, who was reportedly standing in the speedboat, got injured after it crashed into a bigger boat. The woman sustained a cut on her neck and died on the way to hospital.

Following the accident, the tourism officials suspended the speedboat operations in Hussainsagar Lake for last 10 days.

“A refresher course in driving and safety of passengers was held for all the 16 drivers working on different boats. Experts from the Yatch Association and Navy also briefed the drivers,” a tourism official said. The department has also drawn different route maps for speedboats and mechanical boats.

“All the drivers have been asked to strictly adhere to their respective route maps to avoid mishaps. There is no question of the speedboats going anywhere near the bigger boats like it used to be earlier,” another official remarked.
