After launching its biggest ever housing scheme in 2014, the Delhi Development of Authority (DDA) is now getting ready to offer a whopping 40,000 flats of ultra-modern design in Delhi in December 2016. This besides offering comfortable housing for senior citizens through a first-of-its kind scheme in the country.
However, the land agency has clearly ruled out any housing scheme this year. DDA Vice-Chairman Balvinder Kumar on Friday said some 53,752 flats are being developed by the agency.
“The DDA is developing over 52,000 flats. Of these 46,952 flats are under construction while 24,260 are at the planning stage. We are hopeful that 40,000 flats would be ready for our next housing scheme by December 2016,” said Mr Kumar.

Mr. Kumar also shared that all these flats and any other flats being constructed by the DDA will have ultra modern designs with highest specifications. All buildings will now be based on green concepts, will be energy efficient with zero discharge and prefab structures enabling speedier and eco-friendly constructions.
On the senior citizen apartment scheme, the V-C said: “Work will start on 2,000 flats, which we hope will be ready to offer this year. A total of 800 of these flats will be in Dwarka, the rest in Rohini and in South Delhi. Five hectares of land has already been identified in Rohini.”
“Senior citizens want security, medical facility. We will ensure they get it all. We will also talk to banks and see if they can offer loans to senior citizens staying alone in Delhi on reverse mortgage so that they can apply in our scheme,” he said.

On the Housing Scheme-2014, the DDA said it will start giving allotment-cum-possession letter on Saturday. As many unsuccessful applicants have still not been refunded the registration amount by the banks, the V-C said the agencies can be blacklisted.
The V-C ruled out reports that many successful applicants have surrendered the flats in Rohini due to dispute with the Barwala villagers. As of today, 150 people have surrendered their flats under the scheme.
“I reiterate that no flat in the housing scheme is affected by Barwala issue. No flat in the scheme is on the disputed land. People are surrendering flats because they had not visited the location earlier. I will say urbanization of any area takes time. Also, people have issue with the size of the flat too.”
Besides this, Mr. Kumar said new farmhouse regulations will be out in two months providing regularisation of excess built up area.
