About 300 nursing students from various private colleges and members of Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI) and Staff Nurses Association (SNA) observed a fast here on Monday.
They said that the State Government should implement the order on January 18, 2012, in letter and spirit thereby allowing all nursing graduates, whether from private institutions or from government nursing schools, to appear for the Medical Recruitment Board (MRB) examination.
“Students passing out from private nursing institutions have equal rights as that of their peers from government nursing schools when it comes to seeking employment in government sector. Hence, the government should not succumb to the demands recently raised by students of the government nursing schools that they alone should be considered for the posts of nurses in government hospitals,” said M. Kavimani, member of TNAI.

The agitators said that any discrimination of students from private nursing colleges would not be allowed as over 60 per cent of the people getting admitted in private institutions come through the government counselling.
