They do much more than their job calls for and very often even go unappreciated. From holding out his hand to help you take your first step and being there to catch you when you fall, literally and figuratively, it is almost impossible to imagine walking the journey of life with him by your side. Whether it involved playing made up games or listening intently to your make-belief dreams, you probably have never heard him as much as sigh or mutter under his breath. And as the world celebrates Father’s Day on Sunday, we find out what it is that people love most about their dads.
Being raised solely by his father, Varun Mohan, a HR executive says: “I admire my dad for the way in which he raised my sister and me. Despite having lost his wife when we were very young, he decided against remarrying and took the extra effort to bring us up. To meet the needs of the family he would even juggle a full-time job with a part time one, and he would still find time to spend with us, whether to teach or to play with us. And what I love most is that he never once complained, even when we weren’t the best of kids.”
Daniel Samuel, an engineer, says of his father, Dr. James Samuel, “I love his heart. Sometimes it makes me wonder how I’m actually his son. He’s so selfless and cares for just about anyone. Truly, he is a good human being.”

According to Maansi Kumar, a music instructor, “Sports and music always had me captivated and I was not a bright student. While everyone around me told me I would never achieve much in life, it was my father who always believed in me. He even went against my mother to support me in taking up a career in music. If there’s anybody who has given wing to my talent and has been proud of me, it’s got to be my dad.”
A father’s love surely traverses geographical boundaries. Priya Wesley, a software engineer in the U.S., says: “My father is one of the most generous and patient men I know. He aims high and is always determined to reach his goals. He has always given us the best in life even when he couldn’t afford it. I am where I am today because he believed in me and gave me direction and showered me with love.”
Having become a father two months ago, just after his own father died, Vishal Thomas, a businessman feels: “It is now that I have come to appreciate him more and admire him for the things he did. He lived the life he preached about and I sincerely hope I can pass on a legacy as great as that to my own children.”

While the third Sunday of June is set aside to celebrate them, in reality, everyday is father’s day so if you haven’t told your dad that you love him, don’t wait till Sunday, get down to doing it now!
