There is something distinctly different about the newly-opened cafeteria Bean Board. As you enter you can see different varieties of surf boards perched on the wall. The seating arrangement is a mix of relaxed couches in one corner, the stiff and trendy chairs and tables at the middle and informal seating set-up outside. But that’s not what makes the place stand out. You may drop by here for a cup of coffee or a piece of their famous cheese cakes. But you take away much more!

“The idea of Bean Board struck us two years ago. It took us a while to turn it into a reality. This place is not just about food. Our aim is to create a community for the young crowd that shares our passion - great coffee, unique desserts, surfing and adventure sports and some great bonding over conversations,” says David DeLaughter, an ardent surfer who came to Vizag from Zimbabwe and fell in love with the place five years ago. The different sizes of surf boards in the café are all David’s collections, who runs his own surfing company here called Karoi Adventure Sports.
Just nudge him a bit about the surf boards and he comes up with some incredible stories about his experiences of riding the waves. “Surfing is also about community. So we thought that would be an apt theme for the place,” David adds.
Bean Board has more than 15 varieties of coffee – all sourced from their partner café, Coffee Jar, a Pune-based chain. Each flavour has a unique element . You can also choose from their 45 range of ice teas, which has become quite a hit. But the USP lies in their black ice tea. “It comes in three flavours and we don’t disclose what goes in to it. We just want to surprise our customers with a new flavour of black ice tea every time,” says Isaac.

Also try out the sandwiches and the amazing range of cheese cakes. My personal favourite remains the blueberry cheese cake – soft and mildly sweet.
