An imaginative Kalyani raga alapana and the grand song ‘Bhajare Re Chitha’ formed the highlight of Sangeeta Sivakumar’s concert at Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha .
Revealing solid training, she sang some the telling sancharas in Kalyani with tonal consistency with verve and vivacity.
The characteristic facets of the raga were emphasised with liveliness. This stressed her ability to handle such a grand piece. The niraval passages confirmed her firm interpretative method.

Usha Rajagopalan's violin support was equally energetic. The earlier part of the recital was not quite brisk with an elaborate Sriraga alapana and song ‘Nama Kusumamula.’
Though the patantara was traditional, it failed to impress.
To some extent this dullness was reversed with the composition of Vasudevachar ‘Brochevaarevarura’ in Khamas.

The mridangam play by Arun Prakash was subdued and almost detached.
Even the tani avartanam with Adambakkam Shankar (ghatam) was very short and unexciting.
