A century of lec-dems

This year marks the centenary of lecture sessions on Carnatic music in the modern sense. The first of these was held in 1912 in Thanjavur. They were organised under the auspices of the Sangita Vidya Mahajana Sangam promoted by Abraham Pandithar, a Christian doctor of that town.

His right hand in the organising of the session was the multi-faceted Harikesanallur L. Muthiah Bhagavatar.
