A musical feast

'Hyderabad Sisters’ participation in the Sampradaya Trust’s musical fest enhanced the event.

Sampradaya Trust organised a ‘Sangeetha Mahotsav’ at Vinayaka Temple Auditorium in Malkajgiri recently. It was a delight watching young children — all disciples of J. Chidrupa Lakshmi, presenting Swara Laya Vinyasam in the opening part of the festival. The events opened with mini-concerts by students of Swara Bhangima. They included Master D. Kashyap who opened with Thodi varnam and followed it with Narasimha Mamava in Arabhi, Siva Siva Bhava Bhava Saranam, a Narayanatheertha’s tarangam. The main composition he rendered was Kailasanathena in Kambhoji of Dikshitar. .

S. Hari Chandana figured in another concert that was opened with Bhairavi Ata tala varnam. The other numbers she presented were Paridanamicchithe in Bilahari, Sankari Sankuru in Saveri, Bantureethi in Hamsanadam. Her main number was Evarura in Mohana with extensive raga and swara presentation. Sai Bhargav on violin and Mehar Sagar on mridangam lent support.

On the second day Ch. Ramya Kiranmari, disciple and granddaughter of Ivaturi Vijayeswara Rao was featured in a delectable concert. Ramya started with Hamsadhwani varnam and followed it with

Sri Vighnarajam Bhaje in Gambhira Nata,

Ananda Sagaram a rare number in Garudadhwani,

Nenarunchinanu in Malavi. Her major contribution was

Dakshinamurthe of Dikhithar in Sankarabharanam. O. Rajasekhar on violin and Ch.Ramakrishna on mridangam lent support.

Sreevidya Janakiraman’s was another impressive concert in the fest that began with a crisp Darbaru varnam and followed by

Pranavakaram in Arabhi; Ninnuvina Marigalada in Reethigowla; Eti Janmamidira in Varali and Thelisi Ramachinthanatho in Poornachandrika — all engaging numbers. The show piece was Ragam- Tanam-Pallavi in Saveri and the pallavi line was Saveri Ragapriyan Kaveri Rangayyan . R. Dinakar on violin and Burra Sriram on mridangam lent able support.

The major concert of the entire festival was that of Lalitha and Haripriya, well known as Hyderabad Sisters. They were accompanied by Dwaram Satyanarayana Rao on violin and Peravali Jaya Bhaskar on mridangam.

The festival got concluded with a Bhajan session in which Ramananda Saraswathi of Madurai and party took part, with vocal support given by J.S. Sriram, K.V.Sairam, Mahadevan and Manikantan. S.V.Venkataraman and Subba Rao on harmonium, Jayadev on mridangam Gopalakrishnan on dolak and Jayaram Sarma on tabla accompanied the group.

On the occasion Akella Mallikarjuna Sarma presented awards to winners of a music competition held earlier.
