A cultural melange

GVR Music college in Vijayawada hosted a fine cultural fete.

The students put up an impressive show

An impressive music and dance fare was organised jointly by Andhra Pradesh Bhasha Samskritika Sangham and G.V.R. Government College of Music and Dance, Vijayawada at the college open air auditorium. The programme started with a function with Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, M.L.A., Vijayawada East as the chief guest. Other dignitaries in the function were K. Anasuya, S. Mallikharjuna Yadav. The variety cultural fare consisted of a veena and violin recitals, group singing of patriotic songs by the college students and a few Kuchipudi dance items.

S. Harshini, a student of K.S. Govindarajan, principal of the music college presented a melodious veena recital playing Thyagaraja’s popular composition in Hindola Samaja Vara Gamana and a tillana in Pharaj. Being a violinst too, Harshini presented Rama nee Samanamevaru in Kharaharapriya pleasingly. Following the veena and violin recitals, some inspiring patriotic songs and some ‘Sankranthi’ songs were excellently rendered by senior students of the music college. The group songs were rendered with fine orchestral support. The songs were written by Krishnamacharyulu and Jagannadhacharyulu and conducted efficiently by vocal lecturer in the college N.Ch. Butchiahcharyulu. The colourful cultural fete came to a close with some Kuchipudi dance items performed under the able direction of Ajaykumar, also a staff member of the college. The entire programme was efficiently conducted by V. Krishnaveni, K.S. Govindarajan, Butchayacharyulu and Ajaykumar.
