An independent adaptation of Frank Pavloff’s work, Brown Morning , the play is set against certain current political and social issues. Brown Morning is about a fascist regime that directs citizens to get rid of pets such as cats and dogs that are not brown in colour. Books were banned because the words cats and dogs were not preceded by the word brown. “Once we start obeying the orders of such a government, we become tuned to the rules. After a point, we don’t know realise that our freedom is at stake. By the time we understand the gravity of the situation, we are unable to get out of the situation. Pets of Anarchy looks at such a society. We conceptualised the production after the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh,” says Sam.

The play is a production of APT (A Place for Theatre) and it is the 10th directorial venture of Sam. It was first staged at Manaveeyam Veedhi and later at a theatre festival in Palakkad. “We have modified the climax and brought in some additions,” he adds.
