Nishumbita’s theatre spectacle

‘Natotsav - 2016’ had a wide repertoire of theatre forms from different parts of the country

Bouquet of plays Sequences from ‘Being Eunuch’, ‘Mundadugu’, ‘Desi Tales’ and ‘Karrigadu’

The second edition of the theatre festival ‘Natostav-2016’ organised by Nishumbita Ballet and Theatre Group was held at Ravindra Bharati auditorium last week. This time, Nishumbita staged six of its original scripts in different formats – street plays, children’s plays, Shakespearean play and a social play.

On the first day the group presented Vruksho Rakshati Rakshitaha , a multi-lingual street play, Desi Tales, children’s play in Telugu, written by Sowmya Ram and Karrigadu , a Telangana adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello.

Desi Tales had children narrating and acting out five different stories from five different parts of India.

The children performed with ease and good pronunciation.A team of 30 children participated in the play and credit goes to the director Rammohan Holagundi for handling such a large number of children aged from 5 to 12 with elan.

The first day performance ended with an adapatation of Shakespeare's

Othello , in Telangana dialect, titled

Karrigadu .

The second day began with a street play written by Rammohan Holagundi, called Mundadugu .

The theatrical design for the performance of this play borders on the realistic as well as the symbolic merging elements of street play, mime, puppetry and folk flavour of Telangana complete with song dance and dappu .

This was followed a 45-minute thought-provoking play Amanush by children. The play depicts how a child’s life is a never-ending cycle of struggle to survive in this world.

Madhav Divij Holagundi, Prerna Jamadhanda, Moksha. H, Samistha Dutt, Nishtha Nahata, Abhinav Vadali, Vivek P, Ch. Anagha,Vignani Pamu, were part of the play.

This play was written by the late Krishna Madhav Holagundi.

The festival concluded with a social play Being Eunuch on Hijra community in Hyderabadi dialect, picked from the NSD play named Janeman and rewritten by the late Krishna Madhav Holagundi and Rammohan Holagundi.

Music and direction for all the plays was by Rammohan Holagundi.
