The maiden polls for the 119-seated Telangana Assembly were held on December 7 with 1,821 candidates in the fray. The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K. Chandrashekar Rao's gamble to call for elections six months ahead of the schedule seem to have worked well for the party.

2. The Congress-led Praja Kutami (People’s Front), which includes the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the Telangana Jana Samithi and the CPI, failed to gather electoral support, finishing second in most constituencies.
3. Amid the gloomy results, the Congress party had something to cheer about as three of its first timers emerged victorious defeating TRS stalwarts, including two Ministers. Beeram Harshvardhan Reddy defeated Panchayat Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao in Kollapur. Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao suffered a humiliating defeat in Palair constituency from K. Upender Reddy. Jajala Surender won the Yellareddy constituency.
4. The TDP, which runs the government in the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh is leading only in two seats. The party contested in 13 constituency. It won 15 seats in the 2014 elections.

5. Jagtial was the first constituency to declare results. Popular doctor M. Sanjay Kumar defeated Congress Deputy floor leader in the dissolved Assembly T. Jeevan Reddy.
6. In the Capital Hyderabad, it is TRS wave. The party is leading in eight out of 15 constituency. The Old City, however, is set to re-elect AIMIM representatives.
7. The State Congress party has written the Election Commission to verify the polling results with the VVPAT, alleging that the EVMs could have been rigged.
8. The BJP contested alone this time. The party, which had 5 MLAs, is leading in two places.
