‘Latest version of machine is software-loaded, robust and tamper-proof’

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajat Kumar has allayed apprehensions about the efficacy of the electronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines, claiming that the two had proven track record of accuracy.

He was participating in a workshop on election coverage conducted by the regional news unit of the All India Radio (AIR) here on Tuesday. He wanted journalists of AIR covering election news to maintain credibility and help people make right decisions in exercising their franchise.

The EVMs, the latest version M3 in particular, were highly accurate as was evident from the dismissal of over three dozen cases filed against those in the high courts and Supreme Court, Mr. Kumar said, pointing out that the machines are software-loaded, robust and tamper-proof.
