Keshav Barati addressing the school assembly

Keshav Barati, is a class VI student of KMR International School. And when he walked into his school this Monday, it was not like the other normal days. Instead of a student taking seat in his classroom, he was asked to sit in the Principal’s chair! For Keshav had won the opportunity to be “principal for a day” and was called “Pride of the school”.

“I never expected I was going to be announced as Principal for a day. It took me by surprise when the announcement was made in the morning Assembly,” said the 11-year-old unable to conceal his excitement. Candid in his answers, he said being the principal was definitely not as easy as he thought . “It was an altogether a different experience. I started my day with the morning announcements and for the first time ever, I hoisted the national flag. Then I visited all the classrooms witnessing all the wonderful work students do. I feel a Principal needs strong legs to walk around the entire school at least 20 times a day. I also signed some circulars and visited the examination cell where I was shown the question papers and the evaluated papers,” narrated young Keshav.

The young student came to know how the school system really works. “When I was asked to give a speech, I was overwhelmed by the applause.. I was amazed and also felt a bit shy by the way the teachers and students greeted me. But my friends thought it was pretty cool. I was asked to have lunch with our Principal Sir and I enjoyed spending time with him and learning more about his daily schedule. It was like a dream come true,” he added.

“He is a very good in extra curricular activities and an exceptional dramatist also,” added Correspondent Mrs.P.Krishnaveni.

There was a voting system and Keshav Barathi got majority of students’ votes and every teacher’s vote. He truely is pride of the school.”

The school authorities feel such innovative exercises will encourage the students to develop their self-confidence and motivate them to keep doing better.
