A case of a daring forgery created great excitement in the civil courts yesterday [in Coimbatore, April 8] when Rupees 10,389, anna one, deposited by the sub-judge’s court in the Madras Bank was found to have been withdrawn under a forged cheque. The cheque is said to contain the signature of Mr. Kothandaramanjulu Naidu, now Madras Small Cause Court Judge, and his Sheristadar Mr. Narasinga Rau and endorsed by pleader Sitaramier in favour of a chetty and cashed in the Bank of Madras, local branch. Though cashed on the 6th March, it was not discovered until the monthly treasury current account was sent to the sub-court where the mistake was noticed. A blank cheque is said to have been abstracted from an unused cheque book. The District Judge, Mr. Waller and the present Sub-Judge, Mr. P. S. Sitaramaier visited the Treasury and the Madras Bank. The matter has been reported to the local police.
