A meeting of the rice, sugar and grains merchants of Madras was held at the Indian Chambers Building on Saturday, the 21st instant at 3 P.M. to protest against the Port’s Traffic Circular No. 121, when Mr. Abdul Karim Noor Mohamed of Messrs. Janoo Hussain & Co presided. The representatives of many firms were present. The Chairman Mr. Abdul Karim Noor Mohamed explained in a forcible speech the utter unjustifiableness of the order in question and also very severely criticised the action of the authorities for placing such difficulties on the import of foodstuffs at this critical moment whilst it is their duty to give it every facility possible.
