The annual meeting of the British and Foreign Bible Society was held last evening at 6 in the Memorial Hall, Georgetown, Madras, when the Hon'ble Mr. Justice Spencer presided.

The proceedings commenced with the singing of a hymn followed by a prayer. Rev. W.H. Organe, (Secretary) read extracts from the annual report which showed that during the year, the circulation of the scriptures was higher then in the two previous years and that the net income from their sale was Rs. 18,000 and odd and voluntary contributions amounted to Rs. 17,000 and odd. In moving the adoption of the report Rev. J. S. Chandler laid stress on the very simple work that the society had to do in the distribution of the Bibles in the world. Sometimes the Bible was misunderstood owing to wrong interpretation in the various languages of the country.

Rev. W.D. Clarke seconded the adoption of the report and observed that they were all, and in particular the Indian Christian Community, were under a great obligation to this society. He attributed the present civilization of the country, the education of the Indian women, and the elevation of the depressed classes to the leavening process and the transforming influence of the word of God contained in the Bible.

The names of the office bearers and the members of the Committee for 1917 were then announced and the report was adopted.
