June 16, 2017 12:05 am | Updated 12:05 am IST

A motor car fatality occurred about the midnight of last night in which a native policeman lost his life and another was slightly injured. It appears that two policemen were on their way home from Napier Cinema where they had been on duty when they were run into by a motor car driven by Captain Manson, R.A.M.C., with whom were two other officers. Collision occurred on Wellesley Road near Jewish Synagogue. Captain Manson drove the injured men to the Sassoon Hospital where the one who was more seriously injured succumbed to his injuries within a couple of hours of admission. The police on learning the occurrence held an inquiry, Superintendent Yond and Inspector Corby to-day recording statements of those concerned in the case. At midday to-day, a second motor accident occurred, a soldier (despatch rider) colliding with a motor car driven by a chauffeur, in which were seated Mrs. and Miss Taylor. The latter were coming out of the compound of the Council Hall when the despatch rider in trying to pass them going towards Southern Army Headquarters came into violent collision with the car. The young soldier was thrown down and sustained fracture of a leg. He was picked up and taken to hospital where he is said to be in a serious condition.
