Y. Venugopala Rao’s unbeaten 136 (233b, 18x4, 2x6) helped Globe Trotters to 356 for nine on the opening day of its eighth-round match against UFCC (T. Nagar) in the TNCA first-division league.
After S. Anirudha’s 40-ball 70 (8x4, 5x6), Venugopala and S. Sriram (58) put on 148 for Trotters’ seventh wicket at Pachaiyappa’s. Seamers M.K. Sivakumar and V. Lakshman shared six wickets.
Off to more solid, less frenetic starts were India Pistons and Young Stars. S. Avaikkarasan (60 batting) and Shravan Krishnan (79 batting) added 136 for the unbroken fourth wicket to complement R. Varun’s 64, as Pistons finished on 272 for four. S. Suresh Kumar took three wickets for Vijay with his off-breaks.

Petson Mathews (87) and V. Subramania Siva (89) were the primary contributors to Young Stars’ total of 255 for four against Grand Slam. TI Cycles and Aruna managed to restrict Indian Bank and Alwarpet respectively after losing the toss.
Off-spinners N. Raghavendran and J. Vignesh and seamer S. Thiagarajan claimed three wickets each for TI. N.S. Chaturved (51) and Anirudh Kasthuri (61) helped Bank pass 200 before being bowled out.
Off-spinner V.R.S. Guru Kedarnath (three for 68) and left-arm spinner P. Akash Ram (three for 79) enabled Aruna keep Alwarpet to 228 for nine. K. Sriram top-scored with 70.
