Andy Murray on Saturday pulled out of the US Open tournament after failing to recover from his hip injury. 

Announcing his decision two days before the event, the World No. 2 said “He had hoped to play but rehab has not worked.” He said he would decide in the next few days if he would continue playing the rest of the season.

Murray won the US Open in 2012 and was seeded second this year. Murray has not played since losing to Sam Querrey at the Wimbledon quarterfinals, pulling out of various pre-US Open hard court tournaments and hoping to get better before the year’s final Grand Slam.

He now joins the list of high profile absentees at the US Open this year - Novak Djokovic, Stanislas Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori and Milos Raonic.
