After winning two grand slams and an Olympic gold medal, Andy Murray has been given the royal seal of approval.
Murray received his Officer of the Order of the British Empire medal by Prince William on Tuesday, having been awarded the honour in Queen Elizabeth II’s New Year’s honours list following his victories at the U.S. Open and London Olympics in 2012.
The Scot, who also won Wimbledon three months ago, nearly didn’t make it to the ceremony, though.

Murray, who defeated then-world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in this year’s Wimbledon final, became the first British man to win tennis’ most prestigious title in 77 years.
The world No. 4 currently is recovering from back surgery and will miss the rest of the 2013 season.
Murray attended the ceremony with his girlfriend and parents.
