N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth breezed past Sergio Martos Gornes of Spain 6-3, 6-2 and entered the second round of the TVS-ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament at the YMCA Sports and Games Center here on Monday.

Vijay Sundar, who came up with terrific forehand winners that targeted the backhand side of the Spaniard, dominated from the beginning. The Spaniard was broken in the eighth game of the first set when two of his forehands found the net.

Vijay Sundar, who served five aces in all, served out the set 6-3. The pattern of play continued in the second set. Gomes, who ran Ramkumar Ramanathan close in the Trichy-leg, was definitely not in his elements. Vijay Sundar raced to a 3-0 lead as more errors started to creep into the Spaniard’s game. But Gomes broke back to make it 3-2.
