Prerna upsets Jakupovic

Prerna Bhambri upset sixth-seeded Slovenian Dalila Jakupovic 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 in the pre-quarterfinals of the Bhavna Swarup memorial $25,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament at the Services Club’s grass courts here on Thursday.

In the quarterfinals, the 20-year-old runs into second-seeded Noppawan Lertcheewakarn of Thailand.

Qualifier Nidhi Chilumula, who beat wild card Sharmada Balu in the unfinished first round earlier in the day, went down fighting in the pre-quarterfinals to the third-seeded Aleksandrina Naydenova of Bulgaria after winning the first set in the tie-break.
