Vanshika sails through to the quarterfinals

Vanshika Sawhney, the girls’ top seed, sailed through to the quarterfinals, beating Ramya Natarajan 6-2, 6-3, in the Ozone Group ITF juniors tournament on Wednesday.

On the day, only the seventh and eighth seeds, Snehal Mane and Shweta Sangwan respectively, missed out on last-eight berths with both succumbing to straight set losses.

In the boys’ section, unseeded Nitin Kumar Sinha avenged his defeat to Vasisht Cheruku in last week’s adidas junior nationals final, by beating the 12th seed 6-3, 6-4. This was Nitin’s second successive win over a seeded player after having got the better of Sai Nikhil Mannepalli (seventh) in the previous round.

There were also defeats for eighth seed Basil Khuma and ninth seed Arjun Ramakrishnan.
