World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has been named in the Serbian Davis Cup squad for the World Group play-off tie against India to be held in Bangalore from September 12-14. No. 61 Dusan Lajovic, Filip Krajinovic and Nenad Zimonjic complete the squad.
Davis Cup rules mandate the announcement of the four-member squad and the non-playing captain (or three-member squad and playing captain) 10 days before the tie. However, two of the nominated players may be changed up to one hour before the draw, which is generally held a day before the matches commence. This may yet provide ample time for Djokovic to make a decision on whether to travel or not.

Speaking to the media last Thursday, on the sidelines of the US Open, Djokovic, while confirming that he was on the list, had remained non-committal on his participation.
“It really depends on a few things,” he said.
“But for now I’m on the list. I spoke to the players. I spoke to the Davis Cup captain, and, you know, I’m on the list. But we have to see how this tournament goes.”

“My wife is not here. I haven’t seen her for a while. I just see her stomach is growing, on Skype and Facetime, but I want to spend some time with her. So I’ll see. Of course playing for the country is something that awakens a real passion in me and a sense of belonging and really positive emotion and drive. But on the other hand, I’m about to become a father, so that’s something that is a priority now.”
Time factorAlso, if Djokovic ultimately decides to play in Bangalore, it remains to be seen how he manages his schedule.
The Open final this year will be played on Monday (Tuesday morning in India), and with Djokovic widely tipped to reach the final it will leave him with little preparation time as the Davis Cup tie starts on Friday (September 12).
