Second seed R.S. Mohit came back from a set down to defeat top seed Abhinav Sanjeev 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 and clinch the boys’ under-16 singles title at the YMCA-TTT junior State-ranking tennis tournament on Sunday.

Closely fought

The first set was closely fought. Rallies often stretched to more than four or five exchanges as both players refused to give up on the ball.

This was the pattern throughout and it reflected in the match time as they played for well over two hours.

A decisive break when Mohit was serving at 5-6 decided the first set in Abhinav’s favour. But, the second and the third sets clearly belonged to Mohit.

Two breaks of serve — in the fifth and ninth games — gave him the second set 6-3.

He carried the momentum into the third and broke for a 4-2 lead. From there he cantered to victory, losing just two more points.
