ITF Futures tennis: Easy day at the office for Jeevan

Second seeded Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan breezed past Jatin Dahiya 6-1, 6-1 on the opening day of the MCC-S.R. Subramaniam Memorial ITF Futures tennis championship here on Monday.

The only sign of resistance from Dahiya came in the first game of the second set when he broke Jeevan. There was little else with which he could trouble Jeevan and the inexperienced 21-year-old duly capitulated.

Dahiya did execute a couple of winners by taking the ball on the rise and hitting it flat, but Jeevan nullified his baseline game by drawing him back and forth and in the process displayed some deft drops and impressive lobs.

The only other seeded player in action, Vijayant Malik (6), was however stretched to three sets by the Swiss Jannis Liniger before he came through 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.

The top seeded doubles pair of Sriram Balaji and V.M. Ranjeet had an easy outing, putting it past Rahul Robinson Manoah and Raswant Ravi 6-3, 6-2.
