Verma rewrites National record

In fact, it was double delight for Verma as he overhauled the previous mark to achieve his personal target set prior to the championship.

Abhishek Verma, who won a team gold and an individual silver in the recently-concluded Asian Games, scored 709 points to rewrite the National record in the men’s individual compound competition in the National archery championship at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Wednesday.

In fact, it was double delight for Verma as he overhauled the previous mark to achieve his personal target set prior to the championship.

With this the Delhi archer, who attended three felicitation ceremonies in the last two days, also bagged the men’s 50+50m gold medal.

Khyam Poudal Chhetri and Sandeep Kumar, who shot an identical 705 each, also went past the previous National record of 702, jointly held by Verma (made in 2013) and Rajat Chauhan (2012).

Women: 50+50m: 1. Trisha Deb 687; 2. Lily Chanu Paonam 678; 3. Manjudha Soy 677.

Team: Final: Bihar bt Manipur 227-219; Third place: Jharkhand bt Railways 223-217.

Semifinals: Bihar bt Railways 218-208; Manipur bt Jharkhand 222-220.
