Tamil Nadu girls and Delhi boys reign supreme

WELL DONE! The jubilant Tamil Nadu team snapped with its spoils

Tamil Nadu and Delhi bagged the sub-junior girls’ and mini boys’ titles respectively in the National handball championship that concluded here on Sunday.

Tamil Nadu, which edged out Haryana 16-14 in the final, was off to a flying start with its players finding the target at regular intervals.

The host was good at defence too as it led 10-6 at the halfway mark.

Haryana fought back hard in the second session. But the TN players stepped up the pace when it mattered to emerge victorious. Arivazhagi (6) and Sakshi (4) top scored for TN and Haryana respectively.

In the boys’ summit clash Delhi defeated TN 20-15.

V. Senthil Balaji, Transport Minister, and M. Thambidurai, MP, gave away the prizes.

The results: Sub-junior girls: Final: TN bt Haryana 16-14. Third place: Delhi bt SAI 15-10. Semifinals: TN bt Delhi 13-11; Haryana bt SAI 21-18.

Mini boys: Final: Delhi bt TN 20-15. Third place: Haryana bt Punjab 13-8.

Semifinals: Delhi bt Punjab 15-6; TN bt Haryana 11-6.

Special awards: Girls: Best player: Nandhini Sharmila (TN); Best goalkeeper: Simran (Haryana).

Boys: Best player: Kabilash (TN); Best goalkeeper: Sahil (Delhi).
