K.K. Nair, a veteran sports journalist, passed away on Tuesday. He was 86 and was ailing for a short period.
Nair began his career with the Amrita Bazaar Patrika in Kolkata and later joined Hindustan Times in New Delhi. In 1962 he joined Indian Express in Madurai before moving over to Chennai and remained attached to this newspaper for over two-and-a-half decades. He retired in 1990 as the head of the department.
Football was a passion for Nair and in his long career he had reported on several important competitions including the Santosh Trophy. A founder member of the Sports Writers Club, he also served later as the President of the rechristened Tamil Nadu Sports Journalists Association.

Nair is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter.
