India’s campaign ends in doubles

P.V. Sindhu and K. Srikanth registered hard-fought victories to enter the quarterfinals of their respective events at the $1 million China Open here on Thursday.

Third seed Sindhu scored a 21-23, 21-13, 21-18 win in her second round women’s singles match against Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand.

Seventh-seeded Srikanth held his nerve, after losing the second game to Thailand’s Suppanyu Avihingsanon, to advance with a 21-12, 15-21, 24-22 win.

However, India’s campaign in the doubles events came to an end.

The results (second round): Men: K. Srikanth bt Suppanyu Avihingsanon (Tha) 21-12, 15-21, 24-22.

Doubles: Chen Hung Ling & Wang Chi-Lin (Tpe) bt Mannu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reddy 21-9, 21-10.

Mixed doubles: Siwei Zheng and Huang Yaqiong (Chn) bt Ashwini Ponnappa & Satwiksairaj Rankireddy 21-14, 21-11; Christinna Pedersen & Mathias Christiansen (Den) bt Sikki Reddy & Pranaav Jerry Chopra 21-16, 21-10 .
