Om Prakash, Shruti emerge winners

Army marksman Om Prakash clinched the men's 50m free pistol title, overcoming a delayed start and fading light in the first final, at the 55th National shooting championships here on Wednesday.

He notched up a total score of 661.4 (qualifying score 563, final score 98.4), followed by fellow- armyman Vijay Singh (647) and Amanpreet Singh (646.9).

Shruti Bhattepatil won the women's 10m air rifle with a total score of 499.4, finishing ahead of Olympians Anjali Bhagwat (third), Suma Shirur (fourth) and Avneet Sidhu (seventh). Familiar with the range training at the Gun for Glory Academy, the Pune girl moved ahead in the fourth round with 10.8 and raised her performances from then on.

Anjali bagged the third position (498.4) behind Bengal school girl Mampi Das (499.4).

The selectors will name the Olympics shooting squad by January 2012.
