Omkar Singh continued to excel in the 50-metre free pistol event as he shot an impressive 571 in the third Olympic selection trials at Tughlakabad here on Saturday.

The triple gold medallist of the Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010, Omkar, who had shot 566 in the MQS section of the Munich World Cup in May, had a series of 95, 94, 95, 98, 97 and 92.

The Olympic quota places in the event were won by Jitu Rai in the World championship last year, and Prakash Nanjappa this season.

In the women’s 25-metre sports pistol, Pushpanjali Rana topped with a score of 578, ahead of Surabhi Pathak, Shweta Singh and Gauri Sheoran.

It was an abbreviated field in air rifle, with only Ashok Chavanke taking aim among the men, while the women had three entries. Aayushi Gupta topped with 416.7, 0.2 point ahead of Kiranjit Kaur.

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has selected nine shooters in each Olympic event and given them the option of shooting the trials, in case they do not have six international scores apart from the mandatory entry in the forthcoming national championship.
