Mohammed Munawar stuns Ansal

Mohammed Munawar shocked teammate and third-seeded Ansal Yadav 8-21, 22-20, 22-20 in the men’s singles qualifying first round match of the Hyderabad Open badminton championship here on Tuesday.

In another upset, in the women’s singles qualifying first round, K. Vaishnavi of India got the better of third-seeded Ka Yan Fan of Hong Kong 13-21, 21-14, 21-19.

Separate seedings have been are given for the qualifying rounds.

The main draw will commence on Wednesday when familiar names like second-seeded B. Sai Praneeth, Verma brothers (Sourav and Sameer) besides the premier women’s doubles combination and top-seeded Ashwini Ponnappa and N. Sikki Reddy will be in action.
