Kashyap and Prannoy move up

It was a mixed day for the Indian shuttlers as world No. 9 P. Kashyap and H.S. Prannoy cleared the first round hurdle in the men’s singles event while others lost their respective matches in the Swiss Open badminton championship here.

Fifth seed Kashyap recorded a 21-7, 21-19 victory over Hsuan Yi Hsueh of Chinese Taipei in 33 minutes, while Prannoy came back from a game down to register a 18-21, 21-9, 21-12 win over Michael Lahnsteiner of Austria.

However, Sourabh Varma and K. Srikanth ended their campaign in the first round of the tier three tournament at at St. Jakobshalle.

World No. 43, Varma conceded the initial advantage to lose 21-11, 18-21, 21-23 to Indonesian 14th seed Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka.

Srikanth went down fighting to Danish fourth seed Jan O Jorgensen, 21-10, 17-21, 13-21. This was the Indian’s first ever match against the World No.13.
