It is a joy to play with Jwala: Ashwini

June 02, 2011 11:10 pm | Updated 11:10 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

India's ace women's doubles combination in badminton, Gutta Jwala and Ashwini Ponappa, feel that the performance in the recent Sudirman Cup was really creditable and that they are confident of pulling off much better results in the days to come.

“We are enjoying the partnership and hope to look forward. The chemistry is really working as we complement each other on the court remarkably well and no wonder we are ranked World No.22 in women's doubles now,” says Jwala on the sidelines of a felicitation function here on Thursday.

“The fact that India reached the quarter-final in Sudirman Cup for the first time after 25 years should itself be a reminder of the potential we have in all departments,” insists Jwala.

“Till recently, we have been doing well only in singles even against the Chinese shuttlers. But, even in doubles we are making big strides now,” said the 10-time national doubles champion.

Referring to the skirts rule contemplated by the Badminton World Federation which subsequently dropped the idea, Jwala says it is good that they shelved the whole idea stressing that she always believes that the rule should not be imposed on any one.

“We are definitely confident of winning many more titles,” says Ashwini Ponappa.

“It is a joy to play with Jwala and definitely we hope to keep improving and the coming Asian circuit should help us realise many of our goals,” says the Bangalorean, who in the recent World championship recorded the fastest smash of 240 kmph.
