India assured of two medals in wushu

Wushu athletes Narender Grewal and Yumnam Sanathoi Devi assured India of two more Asian Games medals after winning their respective men’s and women’s quarterfinal matches at the Ganghwa Dolmens Gymnasium in Incheon on Monday.

In the men’s Sanda-60kg quarterfinals, world No.9 Grewal defeated Abdullah of Pakistan 2-0 to enter the medal round matches.

He will face Philippines’ world No.3 Jean Claude Saclag in the semifinal match on Tuesday.

In the women’s quarterfinal, Yumnam Sanathoi Devi downed Mongolia’s Amgalanjargal Sangidorj 2—0 to confirm ensure at least a bronze medal in the Sanda-52kg category.

World No.5 Devi will take on China’s Luan Zhang in the semifinal match Tuesday.

Earlier, Lama Sajan finished 13th and tied ninth in nangun and nanquan competitions, respectively.

Lama scored 7.95 points out of 10 in nangun to take 13th position. The 22-year-old Indian bagged 4.60 points for quality of management, 2.40 for overall performance and 0.95 for degree of difficulty to gather 7.95 points.

In nanquan, he scored 9.06 points to share ninth position with Japan’s Koki Nakata.

He got 4.80 points for quality of management, 2.51 for overall performance and 1.75 for degree of difficulty to gather 9.06 points.
