The Indian paddlers’ campaign in the 17th Asian Games ended here on Sunday after the men’s team, led by Achanta Sharath Kamal, and the women’s outfit lost in the quarterfinal stage to China and Singapore respectively.
The results: Quarterfinals: Men: China 3 beat India 0 (Xu Xin bt Achanta Sharath Kamal 11-7, 11-7, 11-7, Ma Long bt Harmeet Desai 11-5, 7-11, 11-2, 11-6; Zhendong bt Sanil Shetty 11-2, 13-11, 11-1).
Women: Singapore 3 beat Indian 0 (Tianwei Feng bt Manika Batra 11-7, 11-8, 11-7; Ye Lin bt Ankita Das 11-9, 8-11, 11-6, 11-8; Yihan Zhou bt Poulomi Ghatak 11-5, 13-11, 11-9).

In an event that tests the ability of the horse and the rider to jump fences without knocking them down, Khambatta committed a total of 29 penalties to manage a 35th place finish. The 25-year-old added eight and one penalty in jump and time respectively to finish 32nd in the jumping individual first qualifier.
Narrow miss Udayan Mane came agonisingly close to winning a bronze before ending one stroke off a third place finish as he was tied fourth in the men’s individual golf. Mane’s second round 66 helped him into medal contention and he shot a three-under 69 to end at 11-under 277.
The other Indians were Manu Gandas (71) in 11th place at nine-under 279, Feroz Garewal (73) at three-under 285 in tied 19th and Samarth Dwivedi (71) at two-over 290 in 32nd place.
In team event India was sixth at 25-under 839.
In the women’s team category India finished eighth.Gurbani Singh (74) was the best Indian at tied 15th at three-over 291 while Aditi Ashok (75) was 21st at 11-over 299 and Astha Madan (78) was 24th at 22-over 310.
South Korea beats India Fancied South Korea defeated Indian 25-22, 27-25, 25-18 in a Group E play-off match in men’s volleyball on Sunday.
India will play its next group league play-off against Qatar on Monday.
