Bernie Ecclestone stands in the paddock area at the Silverstone circuit, England, on Saturday, June 29, 2013.

The head of Formula One said Pirelli will be allowed to run two three-day tests in a bid to resolve the tyre blow-outs that affected four drivers in the British Grand Prix.

Bernie Ecclestone said he had spoken to FIA president Jean Todt, who has agreed for the tyre manufacturer to undertake unrestricted tests on a date yet to be arranged.

Ecclestone told Britain’s Press Association that Todt said “’Let them test.’”

“They can use what they like. No restrictions. None at all. So they can do what they want,” he added.

Four drivers, including then-race leader Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes and Felipe Massa of Ferrari, ended up with punctured tyres during the race.

Pirelli said on Sunday that it was investigating the incidents.
