August 01, 2014 01:17 am | Updated 01:17 am IST - GLASGOW:

Dipa Karmakar became the first Indian woman gymnast to win a medal by taking bronze in the vault.

She finished with a score of 14.366 points through the two rounds of the competition — difficulty and execution — to gain the historic bronze behind England’s Claudia Fragapane and Canada’s Elsabeth Black.

The 20-year-old Indian had 13.633 points in Vault 1, the lowest out of eight competitors. However, in a remarkable comeback, Dipa scored a 15.100, the highest in Vault 2, to bring up her average to 14.366.
