Conditional recognition for carrom federation

Published - November 06, 2017 10:09 pm IST - NEW DELHI

Following the decision of the Division Bench of the Delhi High Court, the All India Carrom Federation (AICF) sprang into action once again and conducted the 46th National championship in Chennai recently.

Zaheer Pasha of the Reserve Bank of India and Rashmi Kumari of Petroleum Sports Board won the men’s and women’s titles respectively.

The Union Sports Ministry, which had kept the carrom federation on tenterhooks for nearly two years, complied with the High Court order and gave conditional recognition for the AICF.

“It has been decided to grant conditional recognition to the All India Carrom Federation to be managed by the following office bearers, elected during the elections held on 29-11-2015 at Guwahati and as communicated by the government observer — Rakibul Hussain (president), Vivek Dheesh Narayan (general secretary) and Arun Ramakant Kedar (treasurer),” the recent government order said.

It was also clarified that the AICF would be eligible to avail various facilities/concessions under various schemes of the government.

However, it was specifically stated that the subsequent decision would depend on the final outcome of the proceedings in the writ petition pending before the Delhi High Court.
