Takes men’s 81kg gold medal in the C’Wealth championships

What an effort! Ajay Singh set new Commonwealth marks in clean and jerk and total en route to gold in the men’s 81kg category.

Ajay Singh rewrote Commonwealth records in clean and jerk and total on his way to take the men’s 81kg gold medal in the Commonwealth weightlifting championships here on Friday.

Ajay did 190kg in clean and jerk and 338kg in total to better Canadian Alex Bellemarre’s records of 183kg and 337kg, respectively.

The medallists: Men: Elite: 81kg: Ajay Singh (snatch 148kg, clean and jerk 190kg, total 338kg, gold); Papul Changmai (135kg, 178kg, 313kg, silver).

89kg: R.V. Rahul (145kg, 180kg, 325kg, silver).

Junior and Youth: 81kg: A.S.R.K. Yadav (118kg, 146kg, 264kg, silver, gold).

Women: Elite: 87kg: P. Anuradha (100kg, 121kg, 221kg, gold) .
