Padmini shares second spot

Sixth seed Padmini Rout moved to the tied second place after beating Ukraine’s Olga Kalinina in the girls’ fifth round of the World junior chess championship at Mar del Plata, Argentina, on Sunday.

Padmini, with four points, will take on Chinese second seed and leader Zhang Xiaowen (4.5) in the sixth round.

Lalith loses

In the open section, Lalith Babu surrendered to sixth-seeded Chinese Grandmaster Li Chao while the trio of Shyam Sundar, B. Adhiban and Aswin Jayaram won over low-rated rivals.

Top seed Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France) and third seed Sergie Zhigalko (Belarus) shared the lead with 4.5 points.
