Dipika Pallikal nominated in World Squash Awards

Ace Indian woman squash player Dipika Pallikal has been nominated in the ‘Young Player of the Year’ category of the fifth annual World Squash awards to be held in London on November 28.

The 18-year-old Pallikal has been nominated for the award along with Kanzy Emad El-Defrawy (Egypt), Nour El Sherbini (Egypt), Nour El Tayeb (Egypt), Amanda Sobhy (USA) and Maria Toor Pakay (Pakistan).

“I am proud to be nominated for the award and I am hopeful that I would receive the award,” said Pallikal after her nomination.

Pallikal clinched the prestigious Junior British Open title last year and has won the German Open, Dutch Open, French Open, Australian Open, Scottish Open on the European Junior Squash Circuit.

She is currently ranked 48th in the world and is currently participating in the World Super Series event - Qatar Classic Open in Doha.

The Women’s International Squash Players’ Association has nominated players for the WISPA Player of the Year, the WISPA Young Player of the Year, and the WISPA Most Improved Player of the Year.

“This year has been the most competitive year on the PSA World Tour for some years,” said PSA Chief Operating Officer Lee Beachill.

“The players continue to raise the bar year after year, adding to the excitement for squash fans around the world,” added the former world number one.
