Chetan, Arvind in Macau pre-quarters

Ace shuttlers Chetan Anand and Arvind Bhat reached the pre-quarterfinals of men’s singles event in the Macau Open Grand Prix in China, after notching up contrasting wins even though it was curtains for four other Indians.

Seventh-seed Chetan easily overcame Chinese Taipei’s Jen Hao Hsu’s challenge 21-10 21-14 within half an hour, while 10th seed Arvind scrapped past compatriot RMV Gurusaidatt 21-16 18-21 21-15 in a 53-minute battle in the second round.

However, P Kashyap, Sayali Gokhale, Aditi Mutatkar fell by the wayside after losing their respective matches.

Kashyap, seeded 14th squandered a game lead to go down 17-21 21-17 21-11 against Chinese Huan Gao in a men’s singles second round clash that lasted an hour and 10 minutes.

In the women’s singles, Sayali became a first round casualty, losing 17-21 19-21 to Kristina Ludikova of Czech Republic, while Aditi surrendered before second seed Chinese Wang Lin 21-11 21-14.

Among others in the fray, Indian men’s doubles pair of Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas lost 15-21 18-21 against American combination of Howard Bach and Tony Gunawan.
