Alankamony bags Young Achiever Award 2009

Chennai girl Anaka Alankamony, who recently became the world’s youngest player to clinch the Women International Squash Players Association (WISPA) title, has been conferred the Young Achiever Award 2009 by the Rotary Club of Madras Northwest.

Alankamony, who won the title at the age of 15 to break the record of reigning world champion Nicole David of Malaysia, was honoured for her outstanding performance at the national and international circuits during the year.

“I will try to bring more laurels to the country in future,” Alankamony said after receiving the award in Chennai.

Other achievements of the Indian include becoming first Indian to win Penang Junior Open Squash Championship twice and fetching bronze in World Junior Squash Team Championships and Asian Junior Squash Team Championships held in her home town.
