The All India Chess Federation (AICF) on Friday amended its constitution, in keeping with the Government guidelines and accordingly the Federation President would hold office for a maximum period of 12 years with or without a break of term.

This and other decisions were taken in the form of resolutions at the AICF's special general body meeting here. Already as per the existing constitution, the Secretary and the Treasurer could hold office for two terms only.

Further, it was resolved that the principal office bearers — President, Secretary and Treasurer — will cease to hold office on attaining the age of 70 years.

On other matters, the AICF accepted the appeal by player Umakant Sharma, who was serving a 10-year ban for using Bluetooth device in tournaments. The ban was lifted but after issuing a warning that any similar activity in the future would invite life ban. Sharma had not taken part in any tournament for four years until now.

The Federation also constituted a ‘Complaints Committee' to guard against sexual harassment of women. Romola Chakraborthy of West Bengal will head this committee and this will have WIM Anupama Gokhale (Mah), Bindu K. Sarithya (Ker), Narasimha Rao (AP) and J. Rajendra (SSCB) as members.

With a view to curbing age violations in tournaments, the Federation accepted the suggestion by the Delhi unit and issued a strong warning to all Associations to ensure correct age proof documents are sent with players.
