World champion Sebastian Vettel on Saturday grabbed the pole position for the European Formula One Grand Prix, which he aims to win a third straight time and become the first repeat winner of the season.
The Red Bull driver Vettel clocked 1 minute 38.086 seconds for the 5.419km lap on the Valencia street circuit, some three-tenths of a second ahead of McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton, who clocked 1:38.410.
Pastor Maldonado was third in a Williams while championship leader Fernando Alonso of Ferrari will start 11th in Sunday’s race.
