Formula LGB 4 cars raring to go

July 28, 2012 12:32 am | Updated 12:32 am IST - Coimbatore:

After missing all the action in the opener, the Formula LGB 4 cars will make its grand entry when the second round of the 15th JK Tyre-FMSCI National racing championship begins at the Kari Motor Speedway circuit in Chettipalayam here on Saturday.

About 20 FLGB 4 cars, powered by carbureted 1300cc Suzuki Swift engines, will line up on the grid for the first time this season. In the opener here, Chennai’s M. Sivaramakrishnan and B. Vijayakumar shared the honours in the ITC category, while Chennai’s S. Feroze Khan finished for a double in the races for the Indian Junior Touring Cars.

The JK Tyre Volkswagen Polo R Cup has also thrown up new surprises with Alisha Abdullah of Chennai, the lone lady contestant, heading the table with 45 points. It is perhaps the first time that a woman driver is leading an Indian championship series.

Alisha is obviously thrilled with her effort. “I am very excited. I adapted quickly to the new TSI Race Polo and it has paid off well. It is an ideal start for me and I hope to build up on this lead in the second round.”

The qualifying rounds will be held on Saturday morning followed by the first race for the new Formula LGB 4, ITC and ITJC classes. The races for the Volkswagen Polo R Cup and the second race for the other three categories are scheduled for Sunday.
