India’s first Formula One driver Narain Karthikeyan will be representing Dutch squad PSV Eindhoven in the 2010 Superleague Formula series that links two popular sports, football and motorsport.

The Superleague Formula consists teams representing legendary European football clubs like FC Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspurs, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, RSC Anderlecht and FC Porto. Some former Formula 1 drivers like Sebastien Bourdais, Franck Montagny, and Robert Doornbos will also be participating in this championship.

PSV Team Principal Jan Lammers, a former Formula One and Le Mans 24-Hour racer, has confirmed that the 33-year-old Karthikeyan will be at the wheel for the Dutch team starting this weekend (April 3-4) at the first round of the Superleague here.

Lammers first came up against Karthikeyan when the Indian raced for A1 Team India. He was then the team principal at A1 Team Netherlands and recognized the talent and professionalism of Narain.

Lammers said: “Narain Karthikeyan will defend the red and white livery of PSV Eindhoven while competing against several drivers he has already raced with from the past. He is also very excited about the kick-off at Silverstone on April 3.”

Karthikeyan said: “I’m really looking forward to racing for PSV Eindhoven in the 2010 season. Single-seater racing has always been very close to my heart, and I’m very excited to be racing in the Superleague Formula.

“Continuing in single-seaters is very important for my future career plans. I am very proud that my corporate partners from India, the Tata Group, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, MRF and Amaron are supporting me wholeheartedly in this new venture. I must also thank Starbeast Motorsport for their support.

“The first weekend at Silverstone will be a whole new learning experience for me, but it is one which I’m looking forward to with great enthusiasm. The team is a fantastic one, with some hugely experienced engineers and mechanics, led by Lammers who is a motorsport legend. I’m flattered that he has chosen me to represent PSV Eindhoven in this very prestigious championship.”
